Lithium-ion battery monitoring LSI
Stand-alone type
Overview
The stand-alone type battery monitoring LSI protects the battery pack by itself without an external microcontroller.
Many kinds of functions for various applications are available, such as secondary protection, the number of cells, and various kinds of detection (overvoltage, under voltage, charge/discharge overcurrent, high/low temperature, short-circuit current, open-wire ), and FET gate-driver circuit built-in.
Some additional types can measure each cell voltage and current by the combined microcontroller.
Product Features
Feature 1Maximum operating voltage 80V
Feature 2Supports 3 to 14-cells line-up
Since it supports 3 to 14-cells in series, it is possible to constitute the optimum system for various applications.
Feature 3The lowest current consumption in the industry
The current consumption in normal operation mode is 25µA (typ.), (ML5233 is 30µA) which is the lowest in the industry, and contributes to energy saving of the system.
The current consumption in power-down mode is 0.1µA (typ.) which is the lowest in the industry, and battery pack long-term storage is possible.
Feature 4Multistage connection supports multi-cell high voltage systems
ML5233 supports the multistage connection. It is possible to construct a multi-cell, exceeding 20-cells, high voltage Lithium-Ion battery system.
Feature 5MOS-FET overheating prevention function realize the miniaturization and high reliability
The ML5245 has a function to suppress overheating caused by the current flowing through the body diode of the charge/discharge NMOS-FET.
It eliminates the need for connecting multiple NMOS-FETs in parallel or adding a heat dissipation function, and it achieves miniaturization and high reliability.
Feature 6Highly accurate voltage detection
The cell voltage detection accuracy is the industry's best ±15 mV (ML5233 and ML5245). Since each cell voltage of the battery pack can be measured with high accuracy, the battery capacity can be used to the full.
Feature 7Line-up secondary protection LSI for multi-cell system
ML5232 supports up to 14-cells as a secondary protection LSI for multi-cell systems.
It detects the overvoltage of each cell and outputs one of two types of alarm signals, Nch open drain or CMOS.
Feature 8Cell voltage and current measurement function
There are some additional types that output cell voltage and current measured by battery monitoring LSI. It is possible to read cell voltage and current measured with an external microcontroller. It can be used for battery gas-gauge and battery life prediction.
Feature 9Provide an evaluation board
The evaluation board is available for ML5233 and ML5245. By connecting an assembled battery pack to the evaluation board, the battery pack system is evaluated easily.
